Entrance Examinations

TUTS accepts applications from those who have a conviction of God’s calling as a minister and are willing to submit themselves to theological training for church ministry. Every application must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from a minister of protestant church, of which the applicant is attending as an active member. Applicants holding a bachelor’s degree in the field of theology, divinity, religion or its equivalent may apply to the Master of Divinity program.

TUTS welcomes international students, especially those from Asian churches, which share their missionary origins with Japanese protestant churches. Since all the classes are taught in Japanese, students whose first language is not Japanese are expected to have the Japanese language proficiency sufficient to enroll in academic classes.

The following remarks will be helpful for the applicants:

• 1)Entrance examinations are given in Japanese.
• 2)International applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
  ①is certified at Level 1 or N1 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test given by the Japan Educational Exchanges and Services and The Japan Foundation.
  ②has received no less than one year of education at an accredited Japanese senior high school, secondary school, technical college, professional training school, junior college or university.
